In the past, the nutrient-rich potato almost single-handedly saved the world. When introduced from the New World to Africa, Asia and Europe, the delicious tuber provided a slew of vitamins and minerals in an easy-to-grow, easy-to-store form—an introduction that resulted in runaway population explosions around the world.
Hundreds of years later, we have thanked the poor potato with urban legends, misunderstandings and flat-out lies about its many excellences. On behalf of the mighty spud, here are five potato myths that need to be buried..
